You're trying to keep your cool when scary things happen, and you're working hard to restore a perception of safety, for yourself and your kids.
But your sense of security has been seriously disrupted, which means your baseline anxiety has shifted dramatically.
So if your anxiety meter is now constantly hovering between a 5 and 10, and you find that you're regularly bracing yourself for a sudden, unexpected spike, you're not alone.
In times of conflict, it makes sense that you feel like a ship tossed about in a storm.
It's not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of human-ness.
At one point or another, we all get knocked off course, and need to find our way back to shore.
Because even when you feel lost at sea, deep down within, your inner sanctuary remains unshakeable.
And I'm here to offer you a simple, yet powerful path to access it.
Introducing Affirmations
When darkness looms large, and uncertainty reigns supreme, affirmations emerge as beacons of hope amidst the shadows.
Affirmations are statements that are created to help you access your inner capacity to heal.
When you intentionally repeat these statements, again and again, you actively forge new neural pathways that allow a renewed sense of safety to take root and flourish.
As you intentionally speak words of healing, courage, and connection, your brain responds by flooding your body with the elixir of hope – dopamine and serotonin – which feels like a light turning on and illuminating the path forward.
Try it on for size
Below you’ll find a set of affirmations I created to help you reestablish your sense of stability in rocky times.
Whether you whisper them in the quiet of dawn or shout them a loud amidst the clamor of your daily chores, these words will anchor you to the unwavering truth of your resilience.
As you recite your affirmations, stand tall. Notice the ground beneath your feet, and hear the steady rhythm of your heartbeat.
By anchoring yourself in the present moment, you reclaim your power and transcend the turmoil that surrounds you.
So be sure to pair your affirmations with deep, intentional breaths so that with each breath, you feel yourself rooted deeper and deeper in the unshakable truth of your inner strength.
And remember, repetition is key. Say these affirming statements a few times a day for at least ten days, and see what's possible.
Affirmations to reestablish safety and control
I hereby declare my commitment to nurture my mind, body and spirit towards healing and repair.
I allow my healing journey to unfold in its own time, at its own pace.
I welcome support from friends, guardians and loved ones past, present and future.
I invite their unlimited love and strength.
And allow myself to receive their comforting embrace.
I know that my path of healing is paved with acceptance of my individual internal experience.
I acknowledge and observe my emotions with an open heart and curiosity.
I make space for my grief, anger, loneliness, sorrow and despair.
I practice kindness and gentleness towards myself.
And I allow my emotions to move through me with each breath.
I acknowledge the disruptive thoughts and feelings that arise, and release them with compassion
I relinquish concerns over that which I cannot control-
And bring my attention back to nurturing my inner tranquility.
I choose inner peace and balance.
