I've decided to spend a little less time watching the headlines.

I've spent enough time paying attention to the news that now I've decided to spend more time paying attention to people and their real lives.

Today I went to the market, and I saw an elderly couple loading up their cart with all sorts of Israeli party treats.

Enormous bags of salty sunflower seeds and toasted almonds. Candies in all colors and shapes: little gummy strawberries and candied worms covered in sugar.

Little balls of chocolate filled with ganache, freshly popped popcorn, and my absolute favorite part- little pink sweets with a baby bottle and a "Mazal tov" stamped on the top.

I was standing in line next to brand new grandparents who have a new addition to their family to celebrate and wanted to share their joy.

At the moment, my house is filled with flowers.

My sister-in-law is designing for a wedding for a lucky bride; every counter is covered with buckets of greenery and blossoms.

Stems waiting to be trimmed. Ribbon scattered across the table. Flowers waiting to be woven into bouquets and centerpieces. The whole house smells like a garden.

This week, brides will walk down the aisle holding those bouquets, beginning their lives with the person they love.

Also this week, my 16-year-old daughter will have her first driving lesson.

She is going to get in the car and begin the grueling 28-hour process of practicing driving before she can take the test for her license.

And with that? Freedom. Independence. Her whole world will open to new possibilities.

As I reflected on all those little moments, it struck me that this is what quietly carries the world forward.

These stories won't make the evening news, but they're happening everywhere, every single day.

I've decided to spend a little less time watching the headlines.

And a little more time watching people live.

It brings me so much comfort.
