The Jewish people is worth fighting for

Last night I watched the sun set over the Mediterranean, and I thought about fighting.

There's just so much fighting lately.

Some of it is essential- worthwhile. Conversations that are opportunities to make change, shift minds, make peace.

Other fights feel like the gap is too wide- narratives too entrenched, the other person or party is too convinced of their side of the story, their perspective, their hurts.

They won't be able to see you. To feel your pain. To hear your truth.

Those fights to me are not worth fighting. Better walk away and protect your peace. Your life. Your safety.

So I ask:

Fighting antisemitism? Will anyone actually hear you? Listen to you? Change their mind?

Honestly maybe? Likely not, but there's always the chance.

But when that hatred becomes part of a system? A society? A scourge that evolved into being acceptable, political, and preferred?

That's when I would walk away. There's too much danger there- physically, emotionally, practically.

Jews have a long history of walking away when there's no salvaging a system where we are isolated, discriminated against, and persecuted.

Here in Israel, there is too much disunity. And honestly, I'm afraid.

Because the divide is so deep. The hurt is so real.

And we cannot afford to walk away from each other.

But we can't keep going like this.

Fractured. Furious. Escalating the argument till it becomes untenable.

That's the most dangerous time to be a Jew.

When we're fighting with other Jews.

This land requires unity for safety and prosperity.

This land belongs to us, and we belong to each other.

When I think about what's worth fighting for?

The Jewish people is worth fighting for.

How do we solve these divides?

How do we decide when to opt in or opt out?

Thoughts?
