Members of the Iranian women’s national soccer team cannot go home for fear of being imprisoned or k*lled by their own government.
As a form of protest, Iranian women's national football team players Fatemeh Pasandideh, Zahra Ghanbari, Zahra Sarbali, Atefeh Ramazanzadeh, and Mona Hamoudi, refused to sing the IRGC national anthem in the tournament opener.
As members of the IRGC were part of their delegation in Australia, it seems they were forced to sing the anthem at subsequent tournaments.
In support of the players, the team's fans also unfurled the Lion and Sun flag, Iran’s pre-1979 revolution national flag, despite the stadium only allowing the "official flag of the Islamic Republic."
They are being called, "wartime traitors" and critics are stating that they deserve severe punishment when they get home.
The team has now been eliminated from the tournament, and there are serious safety concerns for these women, with fans at the stadium chanting, "Save Our Girls"- knowing what will happen to them if they go back.
So much to the point, that even President Trump tweeted about them, saying that if Australia doesn't give them asylum, that the United States would.
Apparently, the women were not allowed outside without chaperones and were denied freedom of speech and freedom of movement in Australia, by their delegation.
It appears now that several of the players have evaded their handlers at their accommodations and are now safely in the custody of the police.
Australia is investigating questions of slavery and human trafficking, as before their escape, the women were being forced to return to Iran.
The son of the Former Shah, Reza Pahlavi, posted this image on Instagram, stating that the girls are now safe.
I think, as International Women's Day was yesterday, we need to take a hard look at any movement that supports the IRGC.
Where women are ab*sed, enslaved, r*ped, m*rdered, and imprisoned. Where their rights of freedom of movement, dress, speech, religion- is nill.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out the cognitive dissonance that anyone who identifies as a liberal minded person, a person who pursues Western values of freedom and liberty for all ---
How can anyone support the IRGC??
And for those who come on my posts to say h*teful things about the w*r with Iran- this is what we are fighting for.
We are fighting their oppressors, and the oppressors of millions of Persians.
We all have a common en*my.
WAKE UP, people.
